Class Structure
The class emphasis changes daily to better cover the varied types of available self defense techniques.
A typical class will contain some of the following:
  • Basics: (Every Class) Full body cardiovascular workout consisting of practicing numerous types of punching, blocking and kicking techniques.
  • Forms: (A-Day Classes - Monday and Tuesday) Simulated self defense scenarios using choreographed, structured move sequences.
  • Self-Defense Techniques: (Every Class) Practicing one-on-one maneuvers performing self-defense responses to a classmate’s various (grabbing, punching, kicking and/or weapons) attacks.
  • Sparring: (B-Day Classes - Wednesday, Thrusday, Saturday) Controlled fighting practice with protective gear and/or no-contact fighting without gear.

Mixed Class
(All Ages, All ranks)
Teens, adults, and adults with their children may attend. In this class adults and children learn to respect and even admire one another for their own unique talents and abilities. It’s a disciplined, energetic and full body workout, as students learn effective Tae Kwon Do techniques.  Like our other Tae Kwon Do classes, this one fosters a pursuit for excellence in a safe and nurturing environment. Come join in the fun--together!


Yoga
Yoga for everyone!  This class is designed to introduce and create opportunity to practice increased awareness, stamina, centered-ness, clarity, balance, coordination, flexibility and range of motion.  These are achieved through the yogic principles of intentional breathing in combination with body poses borrowed from nature.  Come renew yourself and create a new body,  mind and spirit!


Business Networking International (BNI)
BNI is a the world's most effective networking organization.  This chapter is Asheville's "Referral Source" the most energetic and robust of the BNI groups in Asheville's history.  Business leaders come to represent their respective professions and businesses to each other in order to support and generate continued success.  This is the most effective and efficient way to business network in the true spirit of "giver's gain"!


Music Together
Music Together  is a music class designed for parents to participate in with their toddlers.  This interactive class stimulates brain development at this crucial early childhood stage.  Great activity for Mom's (or dad's) and their little ones!


Kids-All Ranks
(Ages 6  to 11 years old – All Ranks)
In the context of discipline and group support-for-greatness, students learn to strive for excellence and realize their potential. They develop focused concentration, respect for others, self-confidence, courtesy, self-control, perseverance, honesty and integrity while improving their fitness! This class emphasizes goal-setting and positive reinforcement of personal success while teaching children how to stay safe and avoid violent situations. Classes are 45 minutes in duration. Tons of fun!


Nia
Nia is a relatively new movement art that combines principles from yoga, dance, aerobics and martial arts taught with high energy and spirit.  Nia is for all ages and fun for any age or level of fitness.  These classes are taught by the renown Judy Lampert, award winning instructor and widely recognized for her passionate and fun classes!


Masters Club
(All Ages – Black Belts)
By invitation only.  La Crème de la Crème.  Masters Club class teaches advanced forms and maneuvers to ranking black belt students who are pursuing true mastery of the Tae Kwon Do martial art.  These superior students concentrate on mastering themselves physically, emotionally, mentally and spiritually.  Masters Club students are groomed to become good communicators and humble, inspirational leaders in their lives and in the Asheville Sun Yi’s Tae Kwon Do school.  Mastery and responsibility!


Kids-Beginner

Kids aged 6 through 12 who are just starting tae kwon do classes at Asheville Sun Yi's attend this class.  In this class, new white belts get the special attention they need and deserve.  It is run at a slower and more thorough pace with great attention paid to detail, learning the basic moves and setting the context for character-building daily practices.  Get off to a great start!



Kids-Advanced
(Ages 6  to 11 years old – Orange Belt and Above)
Continuing in the context of discipline and group support-for-greatness, students with experience learn to strive for excellence and realize their potential. They develop focused concentration, respect for others, self-confidence, courtesy, self-control, perseverance, honesty and integrity while improving their fitness! Beginner's (mixed/adults)
Beginner's Class is open to White, Orange-White and Orange belts.  This is a slower-paced, more methodical class  designed to help beginners learn the basic blocks, kicks, forms and one-steps.   There is an interactive, fun class. 


Black Belt Club Kids (BBC - Kids)
(Ages 6 to 11 years old - High Orange through Brown Belt)
By invitation only.  Above average kids who display consistent commitment, great effort, good technique and a positive attitude are invited to join the BBC-Kids.  This class is faster paced and focuses on teaching advanced Tae Kwon Do techniques with increased power and precision.  The Black Belt Club kids learn to lead other students with patience and humbleness.  This class is characterized by grooming future black belts and leaders who embody the caring, connected and powerful character traits of true martial artists.  Creating Leaders!


Mighty Tigers
(Ages 4 & 5 year olds)
The Mighty Tigers class helps kids develop important social, developmental and physical skills such as: focused concentration, respect, the ability to follow directions, balance, coordination, distinguishing left from right and gross motor skills. The instructors also teach basic stranger-danger lessons to help children better understand how to deal with potentially dangerous situations. Classes are 30 minutes in duration. Little ones love it!


Black Belt Club Adults (BBC - Adults)
(Ages 12 & Up - High Orange through Brown Belt)
By invitation only.  Teens and adults who display consistent commitment, great effort, good technique and a positive attitude are invited to join the BBC-Adults.  This is a faster paced class, performing techniques of increased difficulty; structured to challenge the individual to improve their power, accuracy and effectiveness.  This class prepares future black belts to be leaders in the school and in the community.  Big Commitment!  Big Results!
